Fascination above and below ground

Our daily opening hours:

April to October: open daily 9.00-18.00 November to March: 9.00-17.00 24./31.12. closed

A mine with a long tradition: ore was mined here almost continuously for 1000 years! Visit us and go on an exciting journey through time to the authentic places of mining history. Immerse yourself in the life and work of the miners: the mine train takes you underground, to the miners' workplace on site. There you will experience a typical miner's day, from "taking a bite" to drilling, blasting and loading the ore rock.

In the 200-year-old Roeder gallery, you will be fascinated by the huge wooden water wheels that were used to extract the ore. A glimpse into the Middle Ages can be had in the Rathstiefste Stollen, dating from the 12th century, whose walls are covered with colourful, iridescent vitriol. If you want to get up high, you will get your money's worth with a ride in the inclined lift to the highest point of the monumental processing plant. From up here, you follow the path of ore processing from rock lump to concentrate.

You can experience the different areas both above and below ground during guided tours. We offer these several times a day. The guided tours are suitable for children from the age of four. We also offer special guided tours for families at weekends, where the focus is on the little ones: Playfully they learn all kinds of interesting facts about the underground world.
